This vitamin is one of the biggest fears when transitioning to a vegan diet. Some "experts" say that it can't be produced nor absorbed from any vegetable and that we have to eat animal products to produce it...

It is a lie, there are millions of vegans from birth that live happily. Healthy human gut microflora can produce if you eat sensibly. Just as other animals.

Causes Of A B12 Deficiency

But the thing is that almost none of us are healthy or eat sensibly ๐Ÿ˜…. There are a few main causes for the deficiency:

  1. You don't have the right microflora. If went vegan only recently your body needs time to transition. Yuri Frolov advised taking B12 tests only after 2-3 years of switching to a vegan diet.

  2. Parasites. Ascaris can suck 30 ml of blood every day. Parasites are one of the main causes of other vitamin & mineral deficiencies. That's why Ekadashi and other cleaning procedures are so important.

  3. Digestion issues such as a leaky gut.

  4. Alcohol & tobacco.

  5. Chemicals like

    • a soup you wash your plates with

    • toothpaste

    • chemical shampoos, soaps, etc.
Isha Life offers natural alternatives to all above.

  6. Drugs: hormones, antibiotics.

The lack of an appendix and constant stress amplifies the problem. Interesting to mention that physical activities & sport also increases B12 expenditure (sport is not always good ๐Ÿ˜…).

Do I Have A Deficiency?

Many people have this problem including meat eaters, so not only vegans. The symptoms are as follows:

  • Many people with autoimmune diseases don't have enough B12.

  • Shortness of breath, paleness, excessive fatigue, cold limbs.

  • Blood test: low levels of cobalt, low level of B12 and high levels of homocysteine.

  • Dysbacteriosis and indijestion. And the longer you have this condition the lesser you absorb B12...

  • Nervous system disorders up to the development of dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other so-called old age problems.

If you are unsure you can take a blood test for B12 and homocysteine. Remember that you need to have an empty stomach before taking the test. And you should stop taking B12 supplements a week before the test.

Note: high B12 test doesn't mean that you don't have a deficiency because other things can influence it (such as B9 which vegans consume much more). Consult an expert and they will advise you to take more than one test.

Is B12 Deficiency Bad?

Yes... Many people unnecessarily worry about it, but still, B12 is needed for your body and you can end up in an emergency room if you ignore the problem for too long.

How To Solve The Problem

  1. Eradicate issues mentioned above ๐Ÿ‘† that cause the problems such as parasites.

  2. Golden flaxseeds are a great source.

  3. Until solved you can take B12 from other sources such as fish and egg yolks. 1-2 egg yolks a day cover the problem if you don't have a serious deficiency caused by problems from above.

  4. Tablets and sprays.
